Purple Hornet Placement

Well it seems I have won a Purple Hornet Polyp on ebay and since it says 1 polyp I want to make sure I have the best chance for success. Current lighting is t5's, 2 actinic and 2 10k over a 90. I have lots of zoas and for the most part all are doing great. Where would put this little guy?

Re: Purple Hornet Placement

Mine are at a par of somewhere between 150 and 200 and they grow fast. They are in a 20 gallon tank with a 14k 250w bulb but they are near the edge of the tank.

as long as you start them at the bottom and gradually move them up it can almost be place anywhere. I have mine on the front corner of the tank 5" from the waters surface under 250mh's

I can only give my experience with my hornets. I have mine about 14" below my 6x54W T5HOs in my 75g. They get low to medium-low flow. They have grown from 1 polyp to 5 in about 2 months. I would recommend medium-high flow, and I will probably be moving mine soon.

I do agree that when you first put them in you should put them on bottom and in low flow under actinics to encourage them to open.

The key is to leave them alone! Set it and forget it. When I first got my polyp. I fell off the frag plug twice! I thought something ate it but it was in the sand bed. Now I'm at 3 while my two friends got 6 in the same amount of time. I have a 36 inch deep tank and it was on top, but it opens up more and starting growing when I placed them towards the bottom

I have a 90 gallon with the suntek t5's. My hornets are right in the middle, both in height and width of the tank. It is higher water flow too. They grow like crazy.

they CAN take a lot of light, see mine o the top right corner frag rack.
