Purple Hornet Zoas

Those are beautiful, rcranf1!! Thanks for sharing. I personally like all the zoas that have been posted, PHs or near PHs. There is something about the purple and green combination that is really special, I think.

Looks like they are at it again on ebay!
Already at $360 for four polyps with three hours still to go. Amazing...

I'm guessing whoever buys these four polyps will quickly frag them and sell at least two to recover a big chunk of their investment. That's a lot of $$$ invested in at 1" plug. Not for the faint of heart...

how is your one polyp doing? I would try again but to afraid that it will die like the last one
I finally brought it out of the shade and it seems to be liking it. It's still incredibly small. Maybe with the better light it will start doing something.

Bottom line what makes a purple hornet a purple hornet is the alternating green and purple skirt. There seems to be many zoas that look like purple hornets and people have the nerve to call them that but without the alternating skirt they are not even close. eBay is loaded with people trying to cash in on the purple hornet craze, they are selling simple green and purple zoas calling them "the next purple hornets"..it's very funny to say the least. If that's the case I have a 30 polyp group of purple and green Japaness zoanthids that are "the next purple hornets". Even here on the forums when someone starts a post "show us your purple hornets" I dare to say over half of the pictures people post are not real purple hornets.

Those are cooler than PH's!

I really hope not... since they came from gary @ reefpets. Those are the real deal.

they arent green though... are they?

though they do look the same except for the orange instead of green. way more so than the "blue hornets" I keep seeing. which I too think looks awesome if its not lighting playing tricks.

havent seen anything like that before. Id be proud to have that in my tank.

Those are obviously under actinics with bad white balance. Not representative of the true color. I also have a frag of the original PH from Gary at Reefpets and I can tell you those are true to form, but not color. If you saw those under correct white balance they would be more accurate.
