Purple Jawfish

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea where I could get a purple jawfish. I saw the thing on Planet Earth - Shallow seas. I pretty sure it's an indonesian jawfish - absolutley stunning. Any help would def be appreicated!

I've never heard of a purple jawfish.

You got it! That's the one. Im almost positive it's not a blue dot....it's purple and I belive when they show the jawfish they are in indonesia (they mention it in the actual program) They show it a little longer in the actual show. Good call though on the clip - now at least people can see what I'm talking about (and that im not crazy lol) ThankS!

with coloration changes and the lighting i would imagine it is what Jmaneyapanda posted.

I have one, and in most lighting, the head is very very reddish purple.

That's a awesome fish. I still don't think it's the one I saw though. The entire body looked purple with blue/silverish spots.

In more blue lights, the whole body looks really purple, especially the head. I cant think of any other jawfish that could be colored, or mistaken for purple.

Is the whole body of the fish supposed to be purple? There's the Blackcap Jawfish: https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1637+182&pcatid=182. It has a dark colored head but light body. Only thing I saw in the short clip was the head of the fish...

Lol...I hear ya. Please go watch Planet Earth - Shallow Seas. Not only will you see the jawfish that I'm talking about but as someone interested in the hobby in general - you will love it. It's an amaizng piece of work (the whole planet earth series is awesome) - if you have HD TV, prepare to be amazed - it's that good.

I have to respectfully disagree! I've never seen a purple blue spot and I'm almost 100% positve they said they were in Indonesia and the blue dot is found in the gulf of mexico/cortez sea.
