Purple LTA?

No experience with BlueZoo, but I hear they are a quality vendor (for what that's worth).
Beautiful nem, if you receive it be sure to post pics so we all can compare!

Thanks for the feedback. They are not in stock yet. I gave them my email so it's a waiting game now.

I'd love to have something with such great color, and the price seems right to me.

I heard a lot of good things about them but have had no personal experience. I am in the same boat as you, I have been looking for a purple LTA for the past few months and blue zoo has not had them in stock since I started looking. So you may be waiting for a while I've been asking around to see where I can get one and no one seems to know. Let me know if you find one, I'd appreciate it.

I'm looking at this LTA (http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDetail.asp?cid=74&did=2&pid=1075&sku=003173&em=ok) and I'm wondering if the picture is as good as what I'll recieve. Is bluezooaquatics reputable? Or is this another aquacon type site?

Also does anyone have a Purple LTA? Do they look that nice? Any help is appreciated.
They vary allot and that is a stock photo, some are very colorful, ask bza to send you wysiwyg pix when the purple LTA's are in stock.

Posting a bad cell phone pix i took yesterday of one i got a week ago from another local reef club member. It's on the bleached side and i'm looking forward to seeing it color up, some of the tentacles are now looking red so it should be interesting.

Bluezoo is my go to online vendor. I've never had a problem and consider them equal to LA. They have a forum in the vendors section.

I have ordered 5 magnifica anemones from their 'collector's' section over the past year. 2 of the 5 came in looking like their photos. The other 3 looked nothing like their photos. On the website, the blue, green, and purple coloration looked amazing. When they got to me, the colors were very drab, and, had I seen them in person, I would not have paid the 'premium' amount that I did. They did not appear to be the same anemones.
I contacted them and asked if they photoshopped their pics and they said no. I asked if the pics were taken under high actinic and they said no.
However, I do believe that they do take their pics under heavy actinic or at least 20K halides, so be prepared for a less stellar animal if its a blue, purple, or green specimen.
That being said, all but one of the anemones arrived in very good condition, very well packaged, and with a great acclimation kit. They were great at giving me credit for the anemone that did not look well upon arrival and started decaying a day later. I did send photos of it directly upon arrival while still in the shipping bag, later upon acclimation, and then again as it started to decay in my tank. Upon seeing the photos, they gave me the credit without question.
I will order from them again, but I'll have more realistic expectations on the coloring of some things.

Thank you everyone so much for the feedback it is greatly appreciated.

An interesting turn of events though... as I was browsing about I was hitting the normal mainstream sites, Divers den, Reef hot spot, Blue zoo, etc. No one had any in stock. Tonight, just for kicks I thought I'd go through them all again. Luck be a lady! Divers den must have just got one in. A beautiful 8 inch purple LTA, deep purple like the photo from BZA except of course, DD is WYSIWYG! It looks awesome and it should be arriving in the next few days! I'm so excited! :D

PS - any advice for a first time Nem owner?

29g tank, started up Jan 2011, Aquatic life 4x24w T5HO, 3 inch deep sand bed *I have egg crate on the bottom of the tank because there are some very large pieces of live rock in the tank - is this going to be a problem?
2 tank raised ocellaris clowns.

IME, nems travel throughout your tank until they find a suitable location. Be prepared to move stuff out of its way. That said, mine must've been a sissy. He decided to run into my acros, and to my surprise, acros won! Don't mix and match nems like I did (BTA, LTA, and Haddoni all at once)

I will be ready. Everything in the tank is movable except some zoas that have really grown nicely on a larger piece of live rock... I just hope he doesn't choose to put his foot down close to them because it will be game over for the zoas at that point.

Well yours is a sand dwellar so rock wandering shouldn't be an issue.
I also place eggcrate on the bottom of my tank always, never been an issue w/ either of my LTA's/doreensis.
3" is about bare min for sand, but should be ok.
Most of the purples I've seen do seem to keep their color, but as stated they do vary some.
Might want to screen your light and acclimate it depending on lights you have and what it came from.
In a 29g that nem full grown will always be close to your other corals, expect it to be about 18" diameter fully grown.

Thanks for the reply Davocean. I can add some sand if need be, do you think I should? I know they get big, and my tank isn't 100% appropriate so I plan to upgrade at some point. Hopefully a 40 breeder.

How long would you say it will take a LTA to reach full size?

Well, that is hard to guess, depends on how much you spot feed, lighting, water params, but I'd say at a year it will be pretty good size.
I would maybe add a little sand, but then I prefer a very deep sand bed anyway.
Under 4" is what many call tweeners, in between shallow and deep, and often have issues, but that is another topic.

In that case, I may add some more to the particular spot where I want him to set his foot. Again, thanks for the advice. :D

Should be here tomorrow. Can't wait! See if I can get off work a little early to welcome this guy home. :D

What has worked for me is to find a good spot with good light and medium flow next to a rock. Make a depression a couple inches deep at that spot and place the LTA there (after acclimating it). They usually set their foot down on the bottom of the tank or on the under side of the rock, if you chose well for them. If not, they may wander just a bit. I have just under 4" of sand.

I can't imagine egg crate being a good thing but I have no direct experience with it and LTA's. My LTA's have always locked down to the bottom glass. I guess it must work though as indicated in a previous post.

As for size, my current LTA I have had for 16 years. It is usually about 11-12" in diameter. If I don't feed it, it slowly, over the course of years, shrinks. If I feed it about once a month, it stay about the same size. If I feed it more often, it grows. Before the anemone police come after me, it is worth noting that it always gets a little food on its own and my clowns feed it from time to time.

Post some pictures when it has settled in!
