Purple or yellow tang

Sorry guys this is my last thread on fish for my tank. I have a 125 gallon (72x18) and I need to decide on a tang. I realły like the purple tang. The aggression I have read about worries me though. I want a pretty peaceful tank but the tang will be the king of the tank. Here are the other stocking plans

Royal gramma
Blue sided fairy wrasse
Firefish
Group of Anthias

I own a purple tang with a yellow tail, in my opinion I like it so much more than when I had yellow tangs.

I would go purple.

I would go purple. With all fish, but tangs especially, you never know what type of temperament youre going to get. My whitetail bristletooth tang is so dominant and hates wrasses so much I can't add any at all. I've also seen extremely passive purples and very aggressive yellows. If the purple really is a pain, it won't be hard to rehome it.

Awesome! And no I don't really want to push the stocking limits especially when we are talking tangs here! I will talk to lfs and get one ordered in a few months. I kept a yellow and kole in the past and they got along fine. I just want to try something a little different.

Get Both which are roughly the same size, and introduce them at the same time. should have no issues unless you are unlucky

Although the purple is reputed in some circles to be more aggressive than other zebrasomas, I have not found this to be the case necessarily. Frankly, they're all ba$tards. In my current tank, the Sailfin is the worst, with my yellow second and the purple third. Sailfin will actually try to attack my arm unless I flick him away. Only the second tang I ever had that tried this - other one was the psychotic Sohal.

If the purple is the on you want, go for it.

Agree with calore...

I have a yellow, desjardini sailfin, purple, and kole (added in that order). The yellow and purple battled it out for about 2 to 3 weeks, but tolerate each other now with little bickering. They all ignore the kole. The desjardini sailfin is a complete brown-hole to all fish in the tank. Even my parrotfish...

That being said, if you don't plan on adding any additional tangs, go with the purple. I find that mine explores the tank much more than my yellow. Both will likely harass any new comers (even if they are not tangs) for about a day, or so, but it should subside...
