Purple Paly seperation

Sorry if this has been covered to death. I looked through the first few pages of threads w/ no answer.

I just bought some purple palys that are attached to some sort of tube as an anchor. What is the best way, to seperate these from the "plug" without hurting the polyps?

Thanks,

Josh

Try to pry under the mat of the polyps with a scalpel(?) or razorblade to lift it off the plug. You won't hurt them they're pretty durable.

I've never had these before. If I do cut the base off of one or two of them, will the old base grow new Paly's like mushrooms do?

ORA does it in a similar fashion but up towards the hood of the polyp with success. I've cut back green button palys in my tank to the very base and had them grow back.

If the tissue survives I think you'll be okay just make sure they are clean cuts. As was said they are forgiving and hearty, but not if you maul them.
