Purple People Eater. Question/Help

One thing I have noticed when trading or selling PPE's is when you move a frag to a new system, they seem to have a growth spurt before leveling off.

Do you think that its a survival adaptation??? I've read the same things about anenome's splitting and other polyps... When stressed the animals asexually reproduce in order to increase chances of survival... I know some poeple who will purposely have temperature spikes in order to induce growth/splitting... I would think changing systems would cause similar stress... I'd rather have a healthy speciman, and let it occur naturally, than try to induce, but was wondering your guys' opinions???

Whayt does it mean if they get some speckling

my roomates has some speckling on the body thats the same color as the skirt

White speckling is usually due to intense lighting... Its not a bad thing at all... :) I kind of like them better that way...

I don't know if it is or not. It could be. Who knows?

The growth spurts were done usually after a trade or sale occured and the frag was placed in the new owners tank. I don't think it has anything to do with the health of the frag.

I few years ago I posted a picture of my new PPE's ( when they were actually hard to get and considered rare) and they had a little bit of speckling on them. I was really proud of them. Then someone made a comment about how "ubber collectors" would consider that a mark against them and they weren't really all that great. Boy did that pop my balloon.

Now they are in style:smokin:

I should move a couple out into the direct mh light and see how speckled I can get them.:eek1:

Uber Collectors
You should do it, I hear all the cool kids are...

Here is an example of what I meant by the polyps becoming elongated. The bottom polyp in this picture has a bud (you can't see it) coming out where the oral disk seems to be pulled the furthest from the mouth.

I said I would keep the posts up so here are some of the latest pics.
They seemed quick to bud but not to quick to turn into full polyps.

In this pic you can see that the growth from the first pics has now turned into a new polyp. I took this picture right after feeding the two main polyps. That is the reason why they are closed up.
(They seem to like mysis shrimp, I target feed and they swallow them whole..)

In additon to this new polyp there are three more budding on the other side of the frag rock. I will get some pics of that and post them soon as well.
