Purple Polyp Birdnest

I'm an Addict.
Hi all,

I've had this frag for about a month now, and it is growing... Well in fact... Polyps are very very very extended... and has some nice flow.. It is in the middle of my tank, 24" deep. Being lit by my Radion G3 Pro. @ 45%

The polyps are purple, the body is white, but the tip top of the coral facing the light has the green coloring still, everything else is white... Why? Not enough light? I bumped my intensity up to 55% last night...

Picture doesn't show the top that is green, but the body is mainly white now...

That sure looks like a Purple Stylophora and not a Birdsnest. Are the tips white/green with the body being a light tan? If so then it's starting to grow.

Here is my purple Stylo.

This is a Bird of Paradise which has purplish polyps and a greenish skin.

Do either of these look like yours?

Bird of paradise looks like it. I think it's healthy. Just weird coloration. Probably because it's just a frag. Wow that top one does look similar too.

I bumped the lighting up 10% intensity, would that help my situation? I had a few frags start turning brown and losing color.

It's a Seriatopora Caliendrum ;) (birds of paradise) Give it some time and don't move it around, it will color up eventually.

BoP can look really bland with it's longer polyp extension. The purple can look grey/brown from a few feet away. My first guess would be your lighting might not be as blue as other posters and that is why it isn't appearing as colorful. Less to do with coral health, but more to do with color perception.

I would guess maybe a Ponape?
Really nice and thick branches by the way

After looking at pictures on the internet, I think you are right and its a Ponope.
Was sold to me as a BOP, but doesn't really look like one.

Nice Ponape markalot.
OP glad you figured it's a BoP, be careful with ramping your LEDs too much. If your developing the green color, growth and not seeing any signs of bleaching then just give it time and don't adjust too much. Stability will show you the growth. Just my .02

"If it ain't broke don't fix it" good luck.

Still very nice and has potential to grow into a monster show piece judging from those main branches.

True, I'll be careful, if it looks worse after a couple of weeks. I'll tone the lights back down to where they were... I just have a green slimer that is browning really bad and I know it has to be from low flow and low light, I bumped his position up towards the top more and increased flow and light. I'm going to be observing these couple frags over two weeks. If things progress, I'm leaving it alone. If they worsen, I will go back to where I started. :D
