Purple Polyp Plating Montipora Question

I have a question about the purple polyp plating montipora available on your site. The name implies that the coral is a plating variety, however the description states that it is an encrusting variety. I was wondering which type it actually is. I'm relatively inexperienced with corals so maybe I'm just not familiar with the different varieties.

Ostini,

Thank you for the great question! Depending on the type of coral, it can be listed as both plating and encrusting. For example, the colonies of an encrusting acropora coral would adhere and encrust to the surface it is on. The colonies of an encrusting non-acropora coral may adhere as a laminate plate formation. The Purple Polyp Plating Montipora is a good example of the encrusting plate variety.
