Purple stuff on seashell, ID?

This seashell has been in my tank for about 6 months. I found it in Hawaii about 2 years ago and it has been on my counter until I put it in my tank. I figured by then anything on it would surely be dead. Today I noticed some pinkish stuff on the spikes of the shell and I was curious if anyone knew what it is, and if its a threat. I was kinda hoping it was Coralline.

I would guess cyano.

Looks like cyano. See if it rubs off easily or if it is hard. If it rubs right off with your finger then it is cyano. If it is hard/encrusted then it's coralline. Based on your new, white rock in the back, I'd guess cyano.

It felt kinda leathery and stuck firmly to the shell, so I'm going to guess its coral in algae.

Well, I have some medicine to get rid of cyano as I had some a few months ago. I guess it wouldn't hurt too much to treat the tank and to find out for sure

Syphon it out. If it comes back, syphon it out again, then add more flow to that area.

I can understand what you mean by flow, it's on two rocks, neither of which gets any real flow. I can pull the rocks and brush it off.
