Purple Tang- need help identifying diseases

From what I read sounds like the white spots could be a fungal infection. I brought some treatment that is for both ich and fungal infections and I'm going to start treatment when I get home. He's swimming around alot more already after that 50% water change and some of the mysis

What treatment course are you attempting to use. Fungal infections are extremely rare in marine environments. If any broad spectrum treatment should be used I'd go with nutrafurican green powder. It does nothing for ich, as with the product your going to use.

You can try it but its basically a low dose of formalin. I've never had any luck with any kordon products for marine diseases.

Its the only thing I could find. It says its 15/mg per dose of formalin and that for severe cases it can be dosed more frequently. Every 12 hours rather than 24.

I just want to take a moment to say thank you to all those who have been helping. As of now the tang looks much better off than when I made this post. He is out swimming around , and eating the mysis shrimp pretty well. Hopefully before I leave this weekend he will have turned around enough for me to feel comfortable with his condition while I'm gone.

Try to feed him some lrs herbivore frenzy or the reef frenzy. I've had great results when my powder blue wouldn't eat and became sick.

It's great to hear that he's eating better, you should still try to introduce nori to him too. It takes time sometimes for tangs to figure it out, but once they do it's a great staple part of their diet and activity.

You can rubber band a smaller piece of nori to some PVC let it sit in there for awhile, the tang should eventually start to get the idea. I would soak what ever for you are feeding in Selcon.

Just a 24 hour update. His appetite is back fully and he is devouring mysis. I let him eat as much as he can within about 5 mins feeding him a little at a time until he stops eating so I don't pollute the tank. I performed another 25% water change and did the second dose of the Kordon medication. Seems the white cotton like stuff that was growing on his face and fins is slowly going away. I can see that his skin is red where this stuff used to be. It still is there, just not as bad as it was. Tang is swimming around like normal and I have him on a 3x a day feeding schedule.

I can't seem to find any of this vitamin enhancement to soak his food in at any of the local pet stores.

Good news. Tang seems to be responding well to treatments. I've been gone since last weekend and my girlfriend has been caring for the tang. She reports that the white spots are completely gone and that he is eating very well. Yesterday the Vita-chem came in and she added it to the Mysis shrimp and he began eating the Vita-chem enriched shrimp today...I also had her dose the water in the hospital tank directly. I've seen a few pictures of him, and he looks great compared to when i left. I'll have to inspect him personally once I get back home next week but if its going as well as she said, hope to add him to the DT once i get back!
