Picked this guy up from SCFR last night I put him in the tank and his hid.. This morning he comes out and I notice these spoys on him. Please don't tell me it's Ick...

Hard to tell from those pics but most likely.

And I'll spare you the speech on the use of QT.

So hop on the search function and you'll see everything from garlic to QTing (in a copper treated tank) every fish in your tank for 8 weeks.

I my limited experience I tried the garlic and a cleaner shrimp to cleaner up my 1 time I had this in my tank.

Ya I know about the QT but I just dont have the room for it. I am suprised SCFR usually has the best fish! He was in a low light area. I fed the garlic last night cause I remember that.

Bob,

What I did is setup a 10 gallon rubbermaid temp tank. I bought an AquaClear 20 small filter and set it up when needed. I also have a heater. So I put away the tub when not needed.

However, I did think I only needed this for fish. After reading stuff from Anthony Calfo, he mentions that every single thing that goes into the display tank (including coral) should be QT'd. However, I remember another author mentioning that coral was not a problem. So I guess the thought, is to now QT everything.

Not good for this go around, but maybe you can do this for the next.

Good luck.

Id remove the fish ASAP and QT it. Then you can use copper as a treatment which IMO is most effective!

If this fish is eating well and all others fish are unaffected. I'd leave it in the main tank and let its immune system to work out.

So chris, you wouldn't reccomend using No Sick Fish?

I would def try to get it out of the tank and QT if you can catch him.

take it out right away, set up a small 10 gallon QT,use the water right from your tank, you dont want your other fish to get it too! the rubbermaid is a great idea seldin when the fish gets better you can store it away get a 20 if you think the 10 is too small.

I am not as experienced as others here, however I believe the reason you QT corals is for other undesirable inhabitants that may tag along. You wouldn't want them to infest all the other corals in the main display. I have also read and heard from other more experienced reefers that hypo is the best solution for ich, (which you wouldn't want to do in the main display).

I called the LFS store and told him the fish came with ICK... His exact words were "how do I know the fish didn't get it from your tank" I guess ill go buy a small tank and fill it ... grrr

Bob,
just out of curiosity how much did they charge you for the tang and how big is it?
Frank
Is this the place by the RR tracks in Ronkonkoma?

There are only two ways to treat ICH that have been proven to work. Garlic, pepper etc. is all anecdotal at best.
The two proven methods are Hyposalinity, and copper. Because of their skin, Tangs don't do well in copper, and you're pretty much left with Hypo if you want to treat him.
Know your enemy, read up, and be prepared to deal with this once, the right way.

This is just my opinion, and not a lecture. You just finished moving one tank into a new one. You lost a few animals due to the move, tangs get stressed and are are not great fish in a tank that is not established. I know you moved the stuff from the old tank but it still going to go through some die-off. If it were me, I would use the garlic and hope for the best. The q/t tank will take awhile to get going and by then the tang will either have weathered the storm or not.
I have had Powder Blue tangs have ick in the morning and it would disapear at night for weeks. I don't think it was the fish stores fault, just a bad timing.

I don't have a lot of experience with fish, but IME with ich it is usually the result of a primary stressor. I added a healthy hippo tang to my tank when I first started. I observed him at the LFS for 3 weeks before purchase. I then added a yellow tang 1 week later and the hippo tang immediately stressed out over food competition with the yellow and had ich everywhere, even on its eye. I did not treat for ich at all. I repeat I did absolutely nothing except make sure both were well fed. Eventually the ich went away from the hippo tang, no other fish ever got it and I have all my fish to date. All of this happened about 3 years ago.

IMO the changes in salinity, environment, diet, etc. all add to the stress of these animals. Perhaps letting them settle into their new environment or QT from the start is the best practice. Just my $.02
