I have been lookin at this stuff. now I know it doesnt just make coraline grow..It needs some in tank..now the LR I have..has a very limited amount on it. Will this help or do i know more LR with a larger amount of it on it to help it spread with Purple Up

Purple up is reported to be a decent product. I have no idea whats in it, and dont use it. My coraline grows on everything and faster than I would sometimes like. All I do is maintain my basic water parameters and regular water changes. Thats all the magic you need for coraline.

If you think you need more to kick start a culture, ask for some scrapings off a nearby reefer. Plenty of people chuck it out, and wont mind bagging some up for you. Medium to strong lighting wil also encourage fast corralline growth, but ive had corralline grow under low lighting.

used it for MONTHS, didn't do anything. i finally had to buy some more rock w/ corralline on it before i got any. it's now growing on its own. wouldn't buy anymore

It takes time as the tank matures you will begin to see more and more of it. Soon enough you'll be wishing it wasnt covering your glass and needing to be scraped off every week.

I am not sure what is in purple up but I think you can do with out. Do you supplement your tank with kalk or calsium. I think if you add kalk to your topoff you will have more coraline than you want. Also how old is the rock and tank. things take time to develop and that may be what you need

well I used dry base rock for 90% of my rock..so nothing on them..and the 10lb of live rock i bought..has very minimal amount of it. I guess I will just let it grow on its own

You also need lower lighting levels for coralline. I have 130w of PC lighting over a 10g and have never had a speck of coralline grow anywhere. The stuff that comes in on new rocks usually bleaches out. You also need high alk, which I do not have due to the enormous amount of sps and clams in a small volume of water. Coralline likes lower lighting relative to sps, etc.

The tanks that I see the fastest of growth of pink coraline are lit with T5's and the other with MH, both have alot of actinic color. So I would say atleast the pinks prefer bright and blue.

some kinds such as red coralline algae like low light. but how would you explain some tanks with 400 watts of halides and lots of purple coralline on their rocks and glass? i think alk and calcium play a larger role than lights. i also have seen coralline algae growing under 15 watts actinic.

I have great coralline algae growth in my 55 w/ power compacts on it. even my snails and crabs have it on their shells. When I upgraded from flourescents I saw a huge difference in the coralline growth. I have also used "vital reef dna" so I don't know what helps most. Even my tuffa that I used as a base rock has beautiful coralline.

The most amazing coraline I have ever seen is on a maintenance account that I have...It's a 46 bow with a 30 watt NO 50/50 bulb and an Emperor 400...go figure! I really think as long as you have good water quality, and levels of Cal, Alk, and Mag are all in order, it will grow like mad.
