put a bag on it

I'm on the fence about what to do with my tank. Some have said the laundry room is not a place for a sump. When I walk in there and we're doing laundry (just 2 loads/week), I curse the clean smell of detergent. So, several have said I gotta fix that. Bag it or something... Well I felt like I was putting the largest sandwich bag ever (75G sump). Mission accomplished, but it's a temporary fix. The sump is bagged and I'll leave it for all to see for the meeting to get opinions but in my mind my failures to do well in this hobby are not because of equipment or husbandry, it's the same thing that's killed off most of the reefs off south Florida - doing laundry... (well, plus pools, golf courses, etc)

So I'm giving my ghetto glove about 3 mos to prove the theory and regardless of the outcome I'm going to downsize tank size. I'm probably going to have a cheap, big, Christmas present available for someone. I'm looking for a 6'x2x2 tank between now and spring.

That's a good idea...covering the sump I mean.

Don, you should just totally get one from glasscages (unless you come across some crazy good deal). They aren't super expensive and I am happy with mine.

I am very happy with my GC's tank also. But why go smaller? What are the dimentions of your 300 out of curiousity? Is it just to hard to get in to clean?

Angela, standard 8x2x30".

Reason for having my sump in the laundry room was to get the pump(s) noise out of the living/dining room. That and make room for easier access to equipment (mainly skimmer) and room under the stand for top off and water change tubs. The new tank would move these tubs to air tight containers and put THEM in the laundry room. I guess with a lot of work and money (to replace CL with Tunze) I could switch them without changing from the 300 but I hate working in the 30" depth.

Going smaller would just be easier to maintain, allow new stand design, and whatever else I'd do if I could do it all over again.

How I wish the good would happen as fast as the bad. I did cheat and put my shirt in the dryer today vs iron it, but we havent done a load of laundry yet and I seriously doubt I'll see any difference for at least a month.

It's just the two of us, with professional jobs, so we honestly only do 2-3 loads a week (at the most) incl bedding on Saturdays. Hallway door is always open during laundry times.
