PVC Question

Any reason someone would go with "furniture grade" schedule 40 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_4&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Instead of the schedule 40 found at home depot? The printed labels on the pvc from home depot bothers me a little but there's a huge price difference.

Anything I should know about or just bang out some home depot schedule 40?

i didn't even realize "furniture grade schedule 40" was a thing.

uhm, i certainly haven't bothered to use it in any of my setups. i just use whatever stuff they sell at HD/lowes. appears this stuff is smoother maybe?

I bought some online and then realized they don't recommended it be used for plumbing.

I suspect it uses ingredients that are not safe for drinking which would make it not safe for a fish tank.

Lacquer thinner will remove most of the ink, you could spray the plumbing with Krylon Fusion if you wanted it completely white (or any other color).

That's an excellent idea. I haven't glued mine together yet.

If you can, assemble, then paint. If not, be sure to tape off the ends so the paint doesn't interfere with the bonding process.

And FWIW - "Furniture Grade" PVC is available in a number of colors, and sold by most (www.usplastics.com for one) PVC retailers.

But the post above says not reef safe?

As with everything, some will be reef safe, some will not. rjjr1963, I am not sure which one you used, maybe you can post a link so other's know what not to buy.

I used black in my 75 g rimless build that I am selling now on RC, works perfectly and is reef safe.

This furniture grade white pipe uses the same sizing system as standard plumbing grade (schedule 40) PVC pipe. It is not made for plumbing or pressurized use.

There may be other clean pipe that is approved for plumbing but this is what I bought.

Wish I seen the BRS colored pvc, the letters on the Home Depot stuff bothers me a little but I just rotated it so it was not seen when looking at the plumbing.

I glued mine so the letters were facing outwords. Am I the only one that thinks they look cool?
