Those of you out there that have completed stocking your tank, which fish is one that you just love to watch? Being relatively new to the hobby I have always been trying to improve my tank and only recently have I had the time to just sit back and stare. I'm finding myself watching fish that my partner chose that I never really liked and starting to appreciate such fish in a new light, specifically the regal tang. I never liked them, maybe cause I thought they were common, but sitting there watching it has changed my mind. It's a very colourful striking fish.

So what have you got in your tanks that have a greater appreciation after time? or conversely what fish do you have that you really really wanted and never lived up to the hype?

well the regal would be the one that didn't live up to the hype for me, I love the blue, but it seems a little more dim witted than my other fish and a little spaz.

Love my achilles tang, more laid back than the royal too.
Love my maori snooty wrasse, gotta love a fish that can change colors depending on it's mood or what it's thinking, can't get bored with this one!
Copperband butterfly - though we sometimes have a difference of opinion, he's one of my favorite fish and very smart.
golden dwarf hawaiian eels - stay small, but can eat small fish.

not live up to hype - clownfish, percs are cute and pretty much stay cute, but some of the others grow up with faces like bulldogs with a personality of a junkyard dog to match! I have a wild perc that pretty much killed any other clownfish put in the tank with her.

One fish I really miss (I didn't have the top of the tank completely covered and it went rug surfing) was my blue ribbon eel. I know the talk about them, but mine would eat everything and was always out front looking from it's cave. It would eat Rods food, frozen krill everything (was even less finicky than my goldens!). It really had character and I miss that fish :(.

+1 on the regal tang not living up to the hype... mine is looking more and more like something I should catch, filet and fry up every day... the big pig.. :)

I would not be able to pick just one... but my fav's include:

potters wrasse: Seen several leopard wrasses in others tanks (this is my only) and they are all keen hunters... very interesting fish.

Two-Spot Gobies: A small busy sand-sifting worker... always at work improving the sand for his (and my) purposes.

Barnicle Blennies: Without doubt an excellent "what was that" fish... when it darts out of hits hiding place faster-than-fast to catch food as it floats by... red-eyes, evil teeth... teenie-tiny package... mwahahahaa...

and not to be overlooked;
Yellow Assessors... as my tank matures the caves get bigger (reef-grown) and they are harder and harder to see... but now, everyone once in a while, you get a glimps of yellow... and see it upsidedown... very cool.... in the week-hours of the morning, you can see them surfing the currents, upside down, in the tank... very entertaining...

My GS Maroon Clown---A Maroon has always made it into my tank over the years. They are so wierd and almost "Puppy-Dog" like at times. Mine will come to the front and get as close to my face as possible, then shiver, wiggle, and shimmie. He greets my arm, when cleaning the tank, with a bump and rub. They really live up to their names.....and are practically bullet proof.

wrasses....they are so inquisitive and then will just dart out for no reason...they also have strict bedtimes and rise times once acclimated. you can set your watch to the goodnight sandstorm my radiant and leopards send up as they bury for the night.

the radiant goes as soon as the halide go out and the leopard about 10 min before the actinics go out.

forgot to add I enjoy them getting to big of a bite of food then taking it to a rock or the side of the overflow to use it to rip it to smaller pieces.

I really enjoy watching my percula clownfish now, as they have hosted in some pulsing zenia! They are probably the most basic fish I have had, but i have a new appreciation for watching them interact with the zenia!

i had received a scopas tang by mistake some time ago. he was a tiny little guy. was never keen on these fish as i thought they were kinda dull. he now is about 4 inches and for sure is the most attractive and interesting fish to watch
