Q: what cleaners for algaed 24g

So the 30 lbs of rock in my new jbj 24g has a ton of green algae (even after 8 days in a dark bucket). Fortunately, no problem algaes like hair, etc...

What snails/crabs and how many of each would you recommend
to clean this bad boycube up?

I pulled around 10 extra astreas from my 70g tank last night for starters.

how long has this tank been up and running? If its very new, i wouldnt even worry about it. Tanks always go thru lots of alga phases the first few months especially, but even for the first year.

Anywho, i would suggest (like always ) to get some cerith snails. Best all around snail imo. I'd get like 10 at least. I'm like all the rest of the frag people...lots of snails And i dont buy into that crap about "oh, well....they'll run out of food soon and die" and stuff like that. Well the day i have to actually feed my snails would be a good day wouldnt it? That would mean there is no alga at all lol. Idk...i'm just ranting now, but thats my opinion about that.

But the astreas are good too, but i like the ceriths much more.

Dude, this was a buy from someone in PHX, so the tank is well established. It was just neglected and no cleaning crew.

Just called the Flag LFS--no ceriths, if you'll believe that.

oh ya this is the one where you were thinkin about selling the rock huh? Or am i just an idiot and thinking of someone else? :lol:

But ya, either way i say ceriths. I just got mine from keyscritters in that group buy i set up a while ago. It was 66 bucks (plus 30 for shipping) for 300 cerith snails. In the end it came out to 22 cents a snail, and 38 cents shipped per snail. Compaired to AA here...they sell them for 1.19...plus tax...i'd rather order them

So if you can find a few people that want some cerith snails, i recommend them. Its like 20 bucks for 50 snails (which is how i got enough people to get in on it...those are nice round numbers at a cheap price).

The only thing about keys was that their snails were pretty small. But i've only had them for a few weeks now and they already seem bigger. Either way you may just wanna order a bit more than normally if you get any from them.
