Hi all...
Just got a colony of Blue zoas... From what i know, it is difficult to keep the color... Anybody have experience with blue zoas offer some tips into how to keep their color...

Thanks...

When I first got a colony of blues, they were almost neon blue, bright bright. Then I placed it at the bottom of the tank and they began to fade away. So I placed it mid way and now the color is back. It might be different for other blues though. You have to experiement over a period of time.

Blues can be tricky. Some of them are low light some of them need more light than most others zoas and a lot of them also seem to be more subceptible to bacterial infections and sometimes just melting away for no clear reason.

Any idea where your blues are from? Also, a pic might help.

I've got a small colony of Tubs blues and they actually seem to prefer lower light. I've got 250 14K HQI's and they seem to fade out pretty bad if they are in direct light in the bottom of my 90. Now if they are in a slight shadow they get deeper and more brilliant blue. I also think they are suseptible to ALK swings and will be effected by that as well. I had a pretty bad alk swing a month or so ago and they didn't look as deep brilliant blue but have came back nicely.

I must be lucky as all my blue zoos do well and have never melted away. I have Tubs as well, and agree that they prefer low light. I have them under a ledge on the bottom under 250W 14KK bulbs as well. I have some carribean zoos that like higher light, but will still retain their color in the middle of the tank. Good luck.

I have blues. If acclimated properly they will keep there color and thrive under high light. If they do fade out at higher light they always have bounced back and colored back up in a couple weeks. In my experience they will also fade if crowded by another type of zoo.

I would try to give them some light. If they dont color back up you can always move them down.

Hmmm... It seems i have play ard with the lighting and placement...

I am not sure where is it from... But here is a pic of it...

Those look carribean to me. I think they like a little more light and the skirts should color up green. I really like those a lot as they are usually a bright blue. Nice corals.

Okay... I will try to shift them higher up for more lights...

I have another colony of light blue, which faded no matter where i place it... Just wondering if anyone have experience with it...
Here is the photo of it...

I am looking for small colonies or frags of bright blue zoos. Where are you guys getting yours? Where should I look nowadays? The vendors posted in the past such as Aquadesignz, Farm of the Sea, Logical Reef, etc. do not seem to have a lot of bright blues any more....

Those aren't really a true blue and there are several zoos that have that kind of baby blue almost white color to them. IME in order for them to retain that color they need a lot of light.
