QT basic question

Ammonia usually isn't a problem in tank transfer. I do, howerver add a dose of ammo lock on the second day just in case with a larger fish but I may be overly cautious . It's not just food but also respiration and urination that adds it .

They were more like darker blotches. Kinda light brownish. I have been keeping a very close eye on the fish and it has what looks like ich but very minimal on his front fins and first thing in the morning the blotches appear. I didn't see them today though. I fed him four times yesterday about 6 of the seaweed extreme pellets an it ate all of it, and I fed him this morning prior to leaving for work and it immediately ate and within a few minutes all was eaten.

Because everybody loves a picture.

Well, did a transfer this morning and everything was goo at around three. Went to in laws for dinner and came home to a dead tang. I'm effin done with fish.

Oh Dex... sry man. It can be majorly frustrating when you try to do everything correctly and crappy things still happen. Don't give up!

That sucks dude.

Any ideas? Ammonia? Was there any medication in play? If it was velvet, that moves super quick.

I feel your pain. The best advice I can give is to try to make it a learning experience. (I realize that doesn't help your frustration.)

I had just transferred this morning. I can't imagine it was ammonia but I have not tested the tank since death. I went with no meds, I used water I had for a water change I mix forty gallons at a time and change twenty every week. I was going to mix more tomorrow after the previous tank dried completely and I set up the last transfer. The fish has zero signs of illness or stress. I wonder if a maxi jet 900 was too much? I had the canister filter on the 20g last time but I decided not to use it for this transfer. I'm mega bummed. I haven't added a fish for 3-4 years because the last time I didn't have qt capabilities and had to tear down and run fallow for 8 weeks while I ran a 55 hypo salinity for the same duration which is when I added the kole tang. I've been putting off a new fish for this exact reason. It sucks. Poor little guy.

Don't beat yourself up too bad man. .. you tried your best and who knows, it may have died from something completely out of your control.

Hey I honked at you yesterday. I was at the ice cream joint by cheaps. And I'm just bummed. I really wanted the fish and waited forever to pull the trigger and then I killed the poor thing.
