QT Canister

Because of limited space in my sump for "seeding" a filter sponge, I've decided to use a canister for my 10g QT. I've read that some use a "coarse sponge" and possibly ceramic pellets? What should I put in it and what will be enough filtration for a 10g QT?

IMO run the sponge--and if you can run the cannister on your display tank for three days--even better

You can always add a piece of live rock to the qt

I don't want to keep my QT up and running. It's a 'when needed' basement setup, so I don't want sand or liverock in there.

Why would the sponge be better than a canister with a sponge? I was thinking of just running the canister on my display tank 3 days before I need it, then use it for the QT.

If I put a HOB bio-wheel on the QT, will it get seeded from the canister? Would this be overkill?
