QT for Coral

Hi Reefers.
We are just beginning to cycle a 120 gal tank again. I would like to have a couple of coral cleared from QT once the tank completes its' cycle.
My question; can I begin this coral QT with RODI or must I wait until I can take some DT water after it cycles to begin the corals cycle

You likely wont want your dts water for awhile, I started a qt for corals along with my dt a month ago. By the looks of my dt, im not going to be putting any corals in for a few mire months, I want the tank to be stable and not have to worry about corals getting overrun by algae

corals need salt water, they will die in RODI!

Since we are talking reefs here, I was under the impression 'saltwater" was a given.
I suppose there is no room for assumption. My bad.

For a coral QT, it still needs to be cycled IMO, that's what I do personally, I pretty much set it up when I setup my DT. My DT started to stabilized around the 5-6 month mark, and that's when I started adding some of the easy LPS and Softies.

I agree- give your DT some time to stabilize. Mine is 3 months in and is going through the algae blooms...

So when you first started, you began to cycle the coral QT at the same time you started the DT cycle. After both are cycled, then you can begin the QT process of the coral?
I was hoping to be able to use Prime for the QT process for the fish and coral in their separate QT.

You might be able to get away with it for the fish, just have to keep on top of it and may require to do water changes everyday. I just didn't take the chance with corals. I let it take it's course with the cycle and started off with some easy corals that are a little forgiven of water parameters.

Id highly recommend having the quarantine be fish ready/friendly. Corals would appreciate the organics, and if you choose something of a utility fish like a yellow coris, o a sixline wrasse, it will be beneficial in pest control

I do have a fish friendly qt now with LR.
What I don't understand in my pea brain is how can a tank be cycled if there is nothing in it to host because bios don't live in the water column to a great extent. Does putting a seeded floss pad in the power filter constitute a tank being cycled
