I plan on getting 1-3 fish soon. I have a DT with two clowns and CUC - I got a QT all setup :

top with white light,PVC,Heater,Powerhead,Marine biowheel filter, 20 gal long, thermostat, new net, syphon for water change and I used display water from my main tank and its almost cycled now.

I purchased Prazi Pro & Seachmin Cupermine. (Do I need anything else?)

I planned on this:

1. acclimating them into the QT tank
2. making sure they are eating and breathing okay
3. Monitor them for X time idk 1-2 weeks?
3. Do you use meds no matter what? If so what type? If using meds should I just remove the carbon filter + the biowheel or just the carbon filter?
4. how long before acclimating to DT?

Thanks!

I wouldnt acclimate them to Qt by dripping them, I'm thinking this is what you mean? I would set the Qt salinity to the source salinity. I would monitor for a minimum of 6 weeks. I treat prophylactically with prazi however lots of people do not, and just do an 8 wk observation.
I would suggest an 8 wk observation... Easiest route!
You are on your way to success.. Great job!
If you use copper take out the biowheel, as any bacteria on that will die from copper. Prazi is fine with the biowheel.

Great thanks - few more questoins :D

Yeah you are saying don't drip acclimate just try to match salinity and temp?

What is "prophylactically with prazi" So don't use prazi pro at all? and just wait 6-8weeks?

Yeah you are saying don't drip acclimate just try to match salinity and temp? My tank is already cycling ~ 35 ppt

Always happy to help. I was asking these questions a few months ago :)

Most Lfs keep their salinity at 1.020 or lower to save on salt costs. You want the transition from lfs to Qt not stressful at all. So add rodi to your Qt to lower the salinity to the source water. Then temp acclimate by floating the bag in the tank for 15-30 mins.

That means that I treat with prazi even if the fish looks 100%. Thus getting rid of flukes.

Okay - so when do you start treatment with prazi after 1-2 weeks or right away? Also - have you tried ParaGuard or is that pretty much same thing as prazi?

Thanks!

I usually start treatment after 3-4 weeks. Making sure the fish is fat and stress free as prazi can sometimes surpress appetite.
Never used paraguard.

So you wait 3 weeks then use prazi then how long do you wait before transfering the fish to your DT?

I always find it helpful and in many cases necessary having Maracyn 2. It's the best antibacterial medication that I have tried.

What and when do you use that? You are confusing me lol you dose maracyn every time you get a new fish or only if you think they have a infection?

Every time I suspect a bacterial infection. I do it almost every time to prevent secondary infections in between tank transfers, formalin baths and copper treatments. Fish nets can cause visible and invisible injuries that should be treated. It's not very expensive all things considered but to me it ends up being the most expensive part of QTing fish.

aaaaaah :eek2:

can someone just write a list like what they actually do step by step and what products they use?

like this :

1. acclimiate match salinity, match temp introduce fish
2. monitor for 3-4 weeks
3. use prazipro or antibotics like ( Maracyn 2?)
4. use copper? I thought that was last resort and basicly for ich?
5. ?

I'm clueless about meds and new to all this QT stuff so I guess I really need a dumb down version for dumbies. I don't know what a formalin bath is.

I'm thinking of doing this..

1. match salinity & temp introduce fish to cycled QT
2. wait 3 weeks monitoring breathing, stress, body and eating habits
3. if all is well use prazi pro with recommended instructions - remove carbon filter keep bio wheel
4. wait another week? then introduce/match salinity/temp for main DT and introduce them?

should I add anything else I do have Seachem Cupramine but only bought it if I saw ich I plan on getting 2-3 tangs (one a hippo which is prone to ich.) Also was reading about the TTM might try that if I see ICH but that is only for ich correct you guys never do that unless you suspect ich?

Thanks!
