QT lighting

Hello,

okay so do u guys think running lights on QT at night would cause ISsues for the fish ? the room will not be dark during the day.

I get home after work at 7 earliest, and want to have more than just 203 hours to feed the fish in QT as they are small and QT lacks the live food.

so was thinking of running lights from say 5 PM till 5 am ... but then the sun would come up shortly after ....

thoughts ? ?

Idk when they would sleep. If you have the lights on from 5 am to 5 pm and then the sun comes up shortly after... I know i have no lights on my tank due to Chloroquine Phosphate. They come out when the sun comes up and they hide once it goes dark in the room. So unless you cover your tank up when the sun comes up i really dont know what to do.

In a QT tank why do you need 12 hours of light, why not run the lights from 7-11pm. This gives you 4 hours to observe the fish when you get home. A QT doesnt need lots of light, it actually doesnt need any except to help with observation

I agree with RayL...the fishes really don't need much more than ambient lighting, which they get during the day, so run them for a few hours when you want to view them. FWIW, we rarely run lights on our QT's at all, altho they all do have lighting.

yea wanted to have more than 4 hours to feed them :)

I cant feed them during the day ... [should set up the auto feeder ] so wanted to feed more at night, or even get up at the middle of the night and feed a couple more times.

point wasnt lighting the tank for photosynthesis or anything, I should have worded the title better, point was "day time for fish so they can eat". I wanted to shift their "day time" to my "night time" when I am home, so I can feed them.

hope it made sense now lol

I would say yes, as long as the room is dark during the day (so the fish perceive it as night). Fish need their beauty rest just like the rest of us. :)

I only turn on the light over the QT to observe the fish then I turn it off.. A few days before I add to my DT I start running the lights for a few hrs a day!

As others suggest, I would just run lights while you are up (7-11) and feed once or twice then, and also feed once before you go to work. That should suffice to make sure the fish are healthy before moving them to the dt.
