QT meds, etc

What type of meds do you guys and gals use in your QT?

Is there a certain order that you add the meds? Length of time for meds?

Do you perform water changes between the different meds?

How long do you keep fish in QT?

Do you even use meds?

What about QT tank for corals? Same questions as above?

It's definitely situational. Most often though, I end up treating with PraziPro, then a combination of BiFuran, Metroplex & Kanaplex if necessary.

I don't prophylactically treat. Just follow the directions on the medication labels.

Water changes are also done according to the medication directions. Water usually comes from the main display but sometimes I'll just mix up some instant ocean.

Fish stay in QT until they don't show anymore symptoms, so that varies as well. 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.

I don't treat for ich but some people do. If a fish came down with a really bad case of ich during QT, I have copper on hand.

I have a frag tank that operates as a coral QT but I'm not very consistent with QTing all new coral arrivals. Procedure would be: dip all new corals with bayer, RPS all out or something similar; monitor the new corals and redip as necessary.

Hope that helps.

+1

I do occasionally setup hospital tank with needed. Usually use copper, prazipro or hypo depending on condition of fish. Start with a low dose and increase as fish gets stronger.

I don't QT corals, but always dipped all corals regardless where/who the corals came from.

So when fish are in QT and look healthy and are eating and not showing any signs of disease, do you still use meds just as a precaution?

No. In that case, I would watch the fish for that 2-3 week period. Assuming nothing came up, I'd add the fish. Something almost always comes up though.

If treating for ich, observe for 30-45 days at least.

I've been taking a opposite approach and using meds regardless of any signs of disease. Just smaller dose if no signs.

I've notice tangs being stronger/healthier when QT using copper (even with no sign of ick). Been about 3 years with almost no causality to date, using light/med dose of copper.

Again this is just from my observation.
