QT problems

^That doesn't make any sense to me. I routinely QT fish 8 weeks+ (once you've dealt with a serious ich outbreak you'll know why) and keep my parameters in line with 20% water changes every other day. A working QT is a lot of work, there's no way around it; but in the end you provide your livestock with their best chance for a long and happy life.

I have had an ich break out, over a year ago on my yellow tang killed it in 10 days with medication put the tang back my DT and never saw it again. You guys over think things. 7-10 is plenty of time to see a if a fish is healthy. Its your tanks do what you want but 8 weeks is crazy to me lol. Ill keep doing it my way cause it works for me. Number one thing forgotten on this website is there more then one way to skin a cat.

dose per direction Seachem Stability. it will boost the bacteria and solve the ammonia issue. also r you sure of the test kit being accurate? sometime API reads 0.25 even after cycling the tank. what test kit are you using?
For now do water changes till you get Seachem Stability and figure out the test kit.

So you are saying that 7-10 days is enough to be sure that there is no velvet or brook issues. Please read up on ich and other diseases in the stickies.

Why is it that the most ignorant of posts always have a "lol" embedded in it. Not attacking you directly but is just an annoyance that I have noticed lately. Or maybe I'm just getting old... Kids and their crazy music these days :)

Yep that's what I'm saying and don't tell me what to read. Don't worry I know you aren't attacking me directly, just indirectly. Why is that all "experts" calling people ignorant act so tough behind a computer screen, and why is it the mods let certain people say things like this. I would love to talk this out in person and ill show you how ignorant I am. LOL

here smart guy I copied and pasted this for you from pet education.com

Preventing Cryptocaryon

The old saying that 'prevention is the best form of medicine' is very true of all marine disease, but especially true of Cryptocaryon. All new fish should be placed in a quarantine tank for at least TEN days to make sure that they are eating, free of disease, and so they are not being bullied in a new tank. Any sick fish can be treated before being added to the display tank. Remember though, a quarantine tank needs to be clean; appropriately sized; have the necessary biological, mechanical, and chemical filters; and have adequate hiding places or it can actually increase the stress level of the fish.

relax. a point i have been making lately is that too many people make bold one-sided comments in the 'new to the hobby' forum (especially this one, not that others aren't important also) without explaining, or taking the time to understand themselves first, the potential consequences along with it. new hobbyists are very easily influenced, especially by posts that infer less cost or less time involved. too many want their tanks full of colorful coral and fish 'right now', and will glaze right over the downsides to that if not told of those as well. and too often, even that doesn't do it.

for example, why not say something in regard to "7-10 days has always worked for me, although have heard of it not working for others, so YMMV". you are still stating your point while disclaiming the possibility of error. they can research more if they please. just saying "7-10 days IS enough" is misleading.

when they take your advice and have the misfortune of failing, losing money and time, are you going to help them out with those losses? i don't know your financial and employment position, but i will speculate the answer is no. i know i'm not in that position anyway. so why not provide them with the necessary information to make their own call, so that they can accept success or failure themselves?

"at least" means >= (greater than or equal to), by the way. 7-10 days would be <= (less than or equal to). sorry, but had to point that out.

I realize that, considering you made 10 sounds like insanity when actually it isn't. Sorry I had to point that out.

edit: LOL

Wsssh.... You hit the nail on the head, Spar. LOL.

what do you get out of chiming in a conversation that doesn't involve you what so ever? Are you 15? Do you like to argue? I don't get it. you must love to hear yourself talk. I bet you have facebook and you update everyone about your life all day long.

update, all is good, after the second 30% WC and a quick filter wash with rodi everything is back to normal! i know the procedure now.

also i will be doing a full QT 4-6 weeks, i am currently dosing cupramine and everything is fine, still eating like they never saw food in there life!

As for 10 days being enough, sure it could be, i do not have the experience yet to comment on that, however i am not willing to take a chance with the size of my system, also RC has some pretty damn smart & experienced members, and this is what they recommend, i will eventually have close to 2-3k worth of live stock.. cant risk it

Sounds like you're on the right track ;) IME for a sufficient QT, should be at least 4 to 6 weeks. Shorter than 4 weeks just doesn't cut it for several common diseases that can easily remain hidden from the human eye for a couple of weeks.
