QT Question Bio-Pellets

I have a Fluval SEA 13 gallon tank I was given... it came with a IM bio-pellet reactor. I'm planning on using the tank as a QT tank on my desktop.

This tank will be in use consistently for the next several months. Is there any reason I should not use the reactor?

I will be running some carbon, purigen and basic mechanical filtration.

Do you have a protein skimmer as well? I don't see any reason you couldn't/ shouldn't set your QT up just like a DT.

Lots of qt protocols call for tank to tank transfers, but if that isn't part of you plan anyway, you should consider what exactly you are trying to keep out of your DT.

Are you going to be moving multiple sets of livestock through qt? Or one set for an extended period?

Are you going to let it all go fallow when not stocked so that any, say, ich, dies off from no fish to help it through its lifecycle?

Did you have another plan for cleaning the tank and equipment to prevent disease transfer between qt cycles? Some of your options could easily kill all the bacteria you are culturing on your bio balls.

Medications could also be very bad for your bacteria, but you would probably stop carbon for that as well, but semantically that might be a hospital tank instead of a quarantine tank...

The idea is that I will have a QT tank that I can move fish from LFS to DT after 30 days. I'm not going to use any copper or proghlactic measures in this tank. I will have a hospital tank I can put up quickly for sick fish.

I'm hoping to get away with only weekly water change in the QT... as long as there are no issues I would keep the tank running for the next batch of fish. If needed I could break in down and treat but only if needed.

I hoping to have a decent looking QT tank on my desk and minimize the maintenance. I was not planning on a protein skimmer but I could add one of then nano ones if people see an upside there?
