QT Tank for Powder Blue Tang

They have this velvet type skin that makes it very easy for ich to attach. I believe most Acan species of tang has the same issues.

Cupramine and DT fallow for at least 8 weeks will help.

I agree with you both. Recty, I know what your saying especially when dealing with a PB. This fish is the worst ich magnet I have ever seen. I believe if the rest of your fish have not been QT'd then I wouldn't even attempt this fish. If you decide to give it shot anyways, I wouldn't add it until it was treated for Ich knowing that it may just get it again. Regardless of strain, if there is Ich in your tank this fish will get it. No offense but the argument is kinda dumb cause both of you know what your talking about on the subject, you both agree that all fish should be QT'd, and you both agree that its best to not have Ich in the first place. Isnt that what really matters. Slowwrx, please do your research on this fish before you buy it and if you have any doubts to wether or not your tank may carry ich, you might want to reconsider. Listen to both Recty and RBU1 cause they have both helped me and they know what there talking about regardless of arguments.

Recty and I are not arguing. We just have a difference of opinion. We all have them. I like these kind of discussions. We are all in this hobby together the more we can do to help each other out the better for all of us.

Yep, I'm totally in agreement with a small tank off to the side to get a fish adjusted and eating well. I'm just not a fan of treating it for a disease if you know your main tank has it.

Of course if the fish you receive has lots of ich showing, by all means treat it to keep it alive. But if it looks 100% healthy, I wouldnt treat it for ich knowing that when it gets introduced to the display it is going to get ich.

It's a stupid argument anyway and I'm done with it, sorry I got involved The best thing to do would be to not have ich in your main tank ever to start with

My 30 gallon long QT. Has a W/D filter that was on my 125 QT allong with an emperor 400 hang on filter. Return pump is a mag 7.

That's you opinion. In mine the longer you qt the better. 2 months at a minimum.

I agree here. Several times I've had fish develop/finally show signs of problems (strange bacteria, or even worse, FLUKES!!) 6 weeks into QT.

I want to thank everyone for their opinions. I decided to get the powder blue yesterday and he's in a qt tank now. He looks really good and I'm watching him eat right now so it seems I got a good one. I'm gonna treat him with prazipro and see if any ich shows up and if so I'll treat for it.

As for my main tank I have a snowflake eel which was the first fish I got and from everything I've read they don't seem to get ich. The other fish in my tank Is a porcupine puffer which was treated in qt with cupramine because he did have ich when I got him. So as far as I know/can guess I don't believe I have ich in my main tank.

this is a great idea. i think people either arent educated enough, dont have the gusto or just havent learned the hard, way the importnce of a qt tank.

i say lets start a thread dedicated to seeing pics of peoples qt systems.

maybe that will help people get an idea of how to go about setting one up.

id post pics of mine here but i think i'll hold off for the new thread.

Slow,

I would wrap the back and the bottom of that QT with some black background. It will help cut down some stress of having the entire tank open.

Yeah, I always have a hard time with tangs in QT. They seem to have more of an interest in attacking their reflection that eating. Getting rid of that mirror effect that the fish see on the inside of the glass would help me a lot.
