QT tank question

Hey all

I have a 10 gallon quarantine (QT) tank set up. I have a biologically mature sponge filter inside. I just noticed however that there is some dust in my tank. Not a huge amount, but enough to be visible if you look. I'm not sure how it got in because I have a lid over the tank.
I plan to QT two ORA's soon. I will do a water change tomorrow to see if I can siphon some out. I plan to QT two ORA's. Do you think this dust will harm the fish?

Dust? Like floating on the water's surface? Or like dust-like particles on the bottom of the tank?

This could be a number of things from sand particles, live rock chunks, to fish poop. It could also be sediment from stuff you might have added to the water. Hell it could even be baby inverts

In most cases, it probably is benign and if you sucked out every piece of dust that ever formed in your system, you are going to have one hell of a time with that tank. If you are concerned about it, increase your flow via powerhead toward the bottom half of the tank. It should pick it up off the bottom and allow your filtration to grab it.

If you post a picture, there is a possibility we can help you ID it better.

well, it is nothing from my live rock or anything because this tank has never seen LR. So that rules out any invertebrates as well. I am 100% it is dust. But I just want to make sure it is not harmful to the ORA's.

My gut reaction is that it's probably not harmful. Just suck out as much as you can if it bugs you!

i think the fact that you are actually QTing fish by far outweighs the particles in the actual QT tank!
