qt tank

Hey guys I just set up a qt tank from a 10gl tank which orginally had a pair of clown and a few zoos, I used some quickcure to hopefully clear up some spots i notice on my other clowns I was wondering since I removed all the live rock but kept the sand will the sand soak up the meds and make that tank unusable as a small reef tank again? Also since I know the tank has done cycling because I had it up for a few months will not having live rock in there effect the condition of the tank as in not enough beneficial bacteria? I read before that people would get some sort of pads and put it in their display tank before throwing it in a qt tank but I never really get that since once u put meds in there doesn't the med also kill any beneficial bacteria? Anyway thanks for the help.

Sand should be thrown out now.
Hospital/QT tank should be bare bottom, No Sand, NO Rock, Just some PVC sections for fish to use as cover.

I second PRDubois...nothing in a QT tank except water, qt'd fish and the PVC sections for cover. Also you mention moving things (pads) from QT tank to a display tank...I would not recommend this...the only thing that should move from QT to your display tank is fish that have been properly quarantined and are free of disease, anything else could introduce disease or parasites the the display tank

I figured u would want to cycle ur qt tank just as u would with any other tank before putting fish in I was just wondering how people did it, I read before that people would leave a few pads in their dt sump to soak up some beneficial bacteria and then throw that in the qt tank. Also once you set up a qt tank can it really go back to a reef tank? I threw most of the sand in a bucket so the tank is fairly bare with a pcp pipe for the clowns to hide in. Anyway just wondering if anyone else have any experience to chime in. Thanks
