Hey guys and gals,
I should have my 10 gallon QT coming together soon.
I have..
Just like 2 lbs of LR
Small carbon filter
Small power head
A light , from a old tank
Small 5-10 heater

I have some questions... WHat are the DONTS in a QT.
Some suggestions of ich treatments, or any disease treatments you guys wanna recommend, that would be great. And ive heard about garlic and copper treatments? Was wondering if someone can clear that up for me :D

Thanks

Ditch the live rock and/or sand. The substrates will only harbor parasites, absorb meds, die, etc. Replace with large pvc pieces for fish shelter. Most say to QT for 4-6 weeks. No need for medication unless you see a sign of disease. If you see diseases treat with a corresponding medication/treatment, hyposalinity, formalin, etc. Copper is a bit harsh. There is a theory that garlic can help boost fish immune system. You can add it to food when feeding but probably shouldnt be used for disease/parasite treatment.

QT = bare tank... plastic plants, PVC, airstone &/or small HOB filter...
treat disease accordingly... a good place to make sure you are treating for the correct disease if you are having a hard time finding an answer on RC, here is a great place listed in the link below... ask for Kelly ;)
good luck

Ok thanks guys

My plan is to...put my fish in there, see how it does, feed it garlic and ( what kind of food is good), then add it to display. And LR is not needed, just a pvc pip would help?

Agree, ditch the sand and the rocks - you'll never be able to use them again anyway if you MED the tank. I just put a big PVC elbow in the tank so they have some cover or a place to feel secure in, just rinse it after your done.

Oops forgot... also check salinity often b/c the small tank's water parameters change quicker than a bigger tank. Good luck.
