QT'ing Achilles

Hello...

Just curious on opinions/thoughts regarding QT of an Achilles tang.

Given the poor survival rate of this fish I am going to QT, but need to know what course of action I should take.

Should I run a low dose of copper? If so, should I add it immediately or only if there are issues? Should I consider hyposalinity instead? Why/why not?

Just curious as to what the prefered method is.

Thanks,
Ben

As I told you before there is research that claims copper damages Tangs internal organs. I know it's a big subject for debate on here but I wouldn't take a chance.

I would just use hypo as soon as it comes in, if you are taking it right over to Michelles the SG in the bag will be low from shipping anyway. Probably around 1.015 - 1.019 tops. So the drop right into hypo wouldn't that hard on the fish as long as the drip time is 3 - 4 hours.

An Achilles Tang needs to graze all day. To fatten up use Selcon. I have used this product on fish with very bad LLD and have worked wonders. Hypo is really the best route. It does not kill good bacteria. You can use any filtration, carbon, skimmer, etc.
The biggest issue with qt is being able to keep the water in excellent condition, which your Achilles needs big time. Lots of oxygen and flow will make your Tang happy.
Good luck!!
And BTW, add him last! They get brutal.
