Two months ago i bought a quality marine green acro sp frag from my lfs. It was BADLY bleached so much that it was almost all white with a hint of brown. Over the course of one month it colored up nicely turning a good neon green and had some nice pe. It even began to show a little growth. Then tragedy struck. My gf dropped my light in my tank and blew one of the ballast leaving me with a two bulb fixture instead of four bulbs for ten days while i awaited the arrival of a new ballast. Once i got the light under control and running again, i got dinoflagellates pretty bad and had to do a four day blackout. By thw time my lights came back on everything was looking pretty crappy, zoas, birds nest, cats paw, rbta, the green acro in question, even my ricordeas didnt look so good. The worst was the green acro though it was nearly all bleached again and had only a slight hint of green near the tips. After two weeks everything is looking great and the acro is much better but not nearly as green as before the debacle. Now the dinos are coming back, and i wanna stop them while they arent too bad like thwy were bwfore. I wanna try another blackout period but im worried about the green acro. Do you think it will survive another three or four day blackout period or will that push it over the edge? Id say right now its at about 60-70% of full health. I dont wanna lose it, knock on wood ive never lost a coral to date. If it wont be able to handle another blackout period anyone have a suggestion on how to handle the dinos another way??
