Quarantine live rock

as far as I know, all live rock has "pests"
but most are good for your tank. I think that's what "live rock" means, there are living things inside it (sometimes creepy) but essential parts of your cleanup/biological filtration

I could be wrong tho

hey Mr. Brown,
You mind postin some tank pics? I think we are both considered "newbies" just curious how your tank is comin along

Hi guys,

What would be some proper procedures to QT live rock to make sure the rock was completely free of pests?

Use dead base rock.

I have gotten all sorts of hitch hickers on rock. Mostly non reef safe crabs.

Basically your going to get live stuff or you would have purchased base rock and added the creatures you wanted. If you really want to QT it I suppose you could put the rock in a spare tank and spy on it each night for a while with a red flashlight.

I would put the rock in a tub with SW, a heater, and a powerhead for a few weeks. Check for little white stars, crabs, and other large pests as you put the rock in and take it out.

Actually you want hypERsalinity, 1.035 to 1.40, for a minute or two. All the nasty critters will hop out.
