Quarantine tank advise

Looking for some best practice advise re a quarantine tank. I have an old 24 g fresh water set up with a the back box stile media filters I am planning to use this as a qt while setting up the main tank.

After stocking I would rather not have this set up and running 24 x7 just in case. It it therefore possible to keep it on standby by transferring some water and live rock from the main sump ans set up should it be needed?

I could also keep some media ceramic tubes etc in the sump of the main tank.

Is this a reasonable approach ?

If you use a good bit of the live rock from the sump and have mechanical filteration running,then you should be fine.Some live sand would help to,just fill up a tub with it and place the tub in the tank and empty the tub back into the refugium/main display when finished

just put a new filter pad in the sump. use that filter pad and some water from the main system when you need to set up the quarantine tank. you don't even need rocks and sands. barebottom with a few pvc elbows and tees work best. rocks and sand will absorb the medicine like copper when you need to treat the fish. it'll be harder to control the copper level then. moreover you won't be able to put the rocks and sand back into the main system since they might release copper back.

I keep the biowheels and ceramic media from my dual biowheel filter in the sump of my DT so they are ready to go at a moments notice. As long as you don't use copper based meds it can all be returned to the sump when not needed.

Should you need to use copper, just remove the biological filtration. You can easily control Ammonia, etc, using regular water changes.
