Quarantine tank for corals

I am thinks about starting a small quarantune tank dedicated to corals.

My question is, if I build the tank with a separate filter sock system to filter any parasites from the corals to act as primary system, can the water then go thru my main sump system to be filtered and blended with my main system. This way I wil be able to control the water quality by continuing to supply fresh tank water to the smallere coral quarantine tank .

Is a filter sock a fine enough to remove coral parasites from water?

i would not, i see your logic, and it makes sense. It very well could work but i would not risk it, whole point of QT is for it to be completely separate. I do like the idea though. would be neat if someone with AEFW or Red bugs could test.

Eek. I wouldn't mix anything between a quarantine tank and my main system. Just an educated guess, but I would think any microscopic pest eggs, sperm, larvae, spores, etc, would find its way through the sock.

Plus, filter socks inevitably overflow at some point.

Not to mention you can't independently treat your qt with anything. Definitely just another tank to maintain, which can be a PITA, but if you're going to do it at all do it right and make it completely independent.

No you can bring in fish disease doing that. I just dip my coral and let them sit with inverts, live rock, macro algae, various corals for 72 days. Any time I add anything the clock resets.

You could. With very fine filter sock and uv but also you wouldn't be able to dose some meds. because it would kill your inverts. I wouldn't do it. But yes it has been done

I mean, I'd be willing to pour water from an established system into a quarantine tank, but no way in hell would I connect the two.
