Ok, here's what I've got so far.
10 gal glass aquarium
50 watt heater (preset to 78 degrees)
Appropriate air pump and air line
Thermometer
Powerhead
I'll pick up a sponge filter, some PVC tubing (for hiding spaces) and some egg crate tomorrow. The room is fairly well lighted naturally, although there's no direct sunlight on the tank. (It'll be for fish only.)
So, here's a probably stupid question. Can I keep the sponge filter running in our 10 gal goldfish tank to colonize it and when we don't need it? Are bacteria in salt and fresh water the same?
Regardless of that answer, how long should it take to colonize the sponge?
And the clownfish specific part...we have one new Occelaris clownfish in our 24 gal nano with a 5 year old chromis from my friends tank. The clown is tank bred, maybe an 1 1/4 inch. His buddy died this morning (hence finally getting off my butt and putting a QT together!) By the time we get the QT up and running, get a new O clown, and run it through quarantine, will one or both become females??
I've tested and re-tested and our H2O params are right on. My hubby (he means well!) received the LA package Friday and started to go through the acclimation process. He said he'd let the bags sit unopened for 15 minutes to get to temp. When he opened the bags to start putting a little of the tank water in, one of the bags (he's not sure which) started sinking and the one clownfish swam out into the main tank. He's not sure which one (bet I can guess!)
So, where do I go from here?
