quarantine tank

Mike Paletta and Atticus have convinced me that a quarantine tank is worth it.
I just threw the old hampster cage (15gal) a heater, and an air pump together. I'm quarantining some mushrooms and a leather so I'll do frequent water changes, and I put together a T-5 fluorescent light(not in the picture yet).
I'm worried about flat worms, I don't want any and I can't ID some small creatures on the rubble the mushrooms are attached to. Should I be useing water from my main tank for this one or new water? I'm thinking of getting FWE flat worm exit for this QT. Should I add iodine or some other pest removal stuff? Should I keep salinity the same as the display?

You should try to keep the QT as close to actually tank conditions as possible. If you want to treat the coral for pests, dips would be suggested.

I have tried to get pictures of the creatures in question, with no success. They are reddish in color, look like a pencil lead broken off (1mm wide X 3mm long). I picked up flatworm exit from AE and used it. FWE is an amazing product, it definatly killed these creatures and didn't seem to hurt the coral or mushrooms.

I'll look around and see if I should re-treat them in a couple days in case there are eggs on the rubble. If you know what the general belief is please post here.

What is the dip that would be best to use on soft coral, yellow leather in particular and mushrooms? Lugols iodine? Fresh water? How long 5 minutes or so?

I can search and will, but if you know already, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks
