Quarantining woes – DOH!!!!!

Last Saturday I picked up 4 new fish for my 150. My choice for quarantining is the TTM and the first 6 days include the use of Prazipro for flukes, flatworms and other parasites. Everything was going great until Day 6 when the train jumped the tracks and everything got all screwed up and I had to start the process over. Anyway, I thought that I would share my experiences so that others don't fall victim to overextending themselves and then when life throws you a curveball your fish have to pay the price.

Anyway, here we go"¦.

Beginning of 1st day "“ At 4:30pm, I add fish to clean tank which has fresh water and a dose of PraziPro
Day 2 "“ I set up second tank with fresh water which also has a dose of PraziPro in it
Day 3 "“ At 4:30pm I transfer the fish to tank #2
Day 5 - I set up tank #3 with fresh water
Day 6 "“ 10am, An old friend calls to tell me that their water heater just died and their attempt to install a new one the night before resulted in complete and utter failure. So what do I do, of course I agree to fix the mess they created.
4pm, I spend the next 2 hrs after work properly installing a water heater.
6:15, On my way home I stop for a cup of coffee at a convenience store. As I walk from the store with a coffee in my hand I realize the error of my ways.
I MISSED THE DEADLINE!!!!!!!! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
7:30pm, I transfer the fish to tank #3 and begin my 12 day TTM process all over.

How could of all this been avoided? Instead of setting my transfer time at 4:30 for the entire process, I should have made an additional transfer on day 2 at a time which was more attainable for the rest of the process like 7:30pm or 8pm.

Thank you for reading,

Don't feel bad. It took me a while to figure out to do that. The fish always arrive about 10 am and that's not a convenient time for transfer most days.

I usually use Prazipro in tanks 2 and 4. That way they are eating well before the possible appetite depression sometimes seen with prazi happens. That gives them a chance to rest between doses and it's the timing most people recommend anyway.

Quarantining woes "“ DOH!!!!!

The things you don't think about. At the time 4:30 seemed doable. I should have know better.

Adjusting the time on a Saturday could have been as easy as storing the bags in the sump for a few more hours. But instead, in the heat of the moment when I was excited about my new fish I convinced myself that 4:30 seemed like the perfect time.

One thing is for sure, I won't make this mistake again.
