quarintine kole tang?

I'm trying a third time for a kole tang. In the past I haven't used a quarintine tank for anything. I would like to know if this fish does well in a quarintine tank and any special needs. I have a hob filter, heater and circ. pump in the tank with a small light over the tank. No rock, no sand, will add some pvc pipe for hiding places. I really want to make this the third time the charm. Can someone give advice on how to do this. I have read through the quarintine tank setups on here as well as the stickies. Still very confused and new to this. thanks for the time

no special needs other than keeping the water in good shape as far as ammonia and trites'... tangs alos use up alot of oxygen, so that is very very important... pvc works great...

feed him well also...

imo, your doin the right thing by qt'ing him... observe, and treat for 2 weeks, again, jmo

Tangs need high levels of oxygen, so make sure you are getting a lot in there. One way is a small hang on back skimmer. But if you don't want a skimmer on your quarantine tank, the next best thing is a pump and an airstone (or stones).

O2 is even more important if you are treating with meds.. some meds can lower O2 levels.

Great plan to QT. Don't skip especially with tangs...

A lot of folks seem to forget that the QT needs cycling. Here's a cut & paste of how to a Q instantly cycle a QT or HT.

"In regards to Qt cycling; I've done this for years. Get a HOB filter; I really like Aqua-Clear, they have a big sponge and last forever. Don't use the carbon or ceramic noodles that come with the filter. Also, have some extra sponges on hand, they're cheap. Keep a sponge in the flow somewhere in your DT. When you need a QT or HT, just use the sponge that has been in your main system in your QT filter---the QT will be instantly cycled. When done, toss the sponge and keep a new one ready in your main system.
BTW, Cupramine copper, used in a QT,will not destroy a bio-filter."
