Queen or Regal Angelfish

My vote is for the Regal, they are more fragile, but in my opinion they are more beautiful! :) Its totally your choice, Queens can be very tempormental so be on the watch if you do go that way!

I think the queen angel is the better looking fish but you need a large tank and strong tankmates. A regal makes more sense for most home aquariums.

My Regal is about 6-7 inches now and was about 3.5 inches when I got him 3 + years ago. The Scribbled and Majestic were both 3 inches and the Majestic is about 7 inches now and the Scribbled slightly bigger, maybe 8 inches.

Growing 3-3.5 inches is pretty good. Most reports I have seen indicate the regal frequently grows only 1-1.5 inches in aquariums. What do you feed it?

Regals my vote, less hassle as far as aggression and size issues. Regals seem to be very passive unless raised in their own tank. Looks is on you, both are nice looking fishes... Ive had two regals, an adult that took weeks to acclimate and almost died during. Now I have had a juvi that doubled in size in less than a year and has been very hardy during this time. I believe they grow at different rates depending on lots of things, number one being whether its a dominent fish in the tank or not. Even though regals are known to be touchy Ive seen more queens with ich or hlle and never seen a regal with hlle to this day.

Love the queen so biased :) guess it comes down to your other tank mates and tank size etc.never kept regals only queen and yes a boss fish 100%

The queen angelfish has been one of my favorite fish for a long time. The regals are beautiful as well and probably the more suitable of the two for most large aquariums. The regal would give you more stocking flexibility in the future.

As an owner of a Holacanthus ciliaris, I would say the cons are the large adult size and the aggressive temperament. This limits your stocking options and forces you into larger accommodations. It's a great and beautiful fish with caveats (as usual).

Good luck with your choice.

My Regal has grown 1.5" in the past ~12 months...in a 450g DT, with 9 other angels/80 fish total

probably my favorite fish!

probably my favorite fish!

Wow, 80 fish! It seems like every couple of months, the number goes up. :D Good work.

I need a bigger tank as there are so many fish I would like to have and I am getting pretty close to limited out. I also have to pass on many fish just because they need a 180 or bigger.

My regal is one of my favorite fish also and I got it to be the centerpiece of the tank, so I hope it grows at least an inch in 12 months.
