Question about Berlin skimmers

Have any of you guys used a Berlin Turbo Classic or XL skimmer? What do you guys think of it? We are looking for a skimmer for our 150, and I really want the absolute best bang for our buck. And I want something comparable to the Octopus. I know they are good, but I also want to find some alternatives just in case

Annnnnd In case some of you havent seen it, Dr Foster and Smith has a ton of their dry goods up to 35% off. Instant Ocean is 29.49 for the bucket, and Reef Crystals is only 31.99

I had a turbo classic once. It was worthless. One day nothing and the next day a flood, never an inbetween day lol. I tweaked on it until one day i smashed it into a hundred even more worthless pieces lol. Stick with the octo or an asm.

I've use the Berlin skimmer many of times and on many of tanks. Number 1 rule is use oversize outlet tubes. The outlet tube or tubes I should say must be atleast 3/4" id or larger. Why does a 3/4' not fit well on it?? I found using a 1" long 5/8" id then placing the 3/4" over it best. Then extending the 3/4" id down to the water lever for gravity to move water.
Number 2 would be pressure. The skimmer needs a higher pressure than most to work well. A small power head may not be and ussually is not the best. The need for high pressure is due to the small venturie cone in the Berlin. Some people have reemed it out and found this was a major mistake(myself included). Use it with high pressure and large gravity feed outlets and it will work well.

I used a mag7 pump to run mine. For the money they get for a skimmer, you shouldn't have to be a mechanical engineer to get it to work properly. You should be able to hook it up with the recommended pump ( maybe a needle wheel upgrade) and start skimming.

For about the same money as the Berlin, on Dr. Fosters they also have the coralife super skimmers red tagged. I have heard quite a bit of good reviews on those. No personal experience on the coralife though.

I used a coralife super skimmer (model 65) for my previous tank (Oceanic 30) and it worked great. It blew away the stupid seaclone I was using before.

Get the Aqua C EV skimmers, they are fantastic, I LOVE AQUAC easiest to use skimmers on the market if you ask me.

Thanks for all the tips you guys! I used a Coralife Super Skimmer 65 on my 40g tank, but the thing drove me nuts. It took me over a week to adjust it to a level where it would skim good without over flowing. We know that the Octopus skimmers are awesome, he has one on his 55. I think we will probably go with one of those.

i was thinking about making a order as well

If you do want to make an order, ill talk to Brannon when he gets up, and if there is some stuff that we need, then maybe we all could split the shipping.
