Question about cycling

I have a Greenspot puffer that i bought as freshwater. Ive beem gradually increasing the salinity and its about 1.006 now and i plan to get it up to full marine over the next 8-10 weeks. Does anyone know how this will effect the cycle? Will the cycle start over at a certain point?

That would be interesting to try with different types of fish. To see if they can adapt to handle the change in their environment. The downside is the unfortunate loss of life for those that couldn't handle it.

Thats common for certain fish..
That puffer being one of them.

mollies being another,etc...

I suspect that the change in salinity would cause certain bacteria to die off and others to increase.. But I don't think thats going to cause problems with ammonia as there will always be some bacteria there already and new ones taking its place.. All assumptions/guesses though.. Never really thought about that one..

Thanks for the replies. For those that dont know, the life cycle of a GS puffer is they are born in fresh, move to brackish and end up in salt water

If you go gradually it won't do a new cycle. The fw bacteria will die or adapt and sw will appear in their place. I set up a 10g quarantine tank that way with a molly in it. It's at SG 1.014 right now. I've just added a little more salt every day for the past 3 weeks.
