Question about fish in the sump

I have read that when people have a shy or mischievous fish or inverse. they put them in the sump if you have to do is do you feed that fish like your DT fish or don't he just eat what ever flow to the sump?

Depends if you're running filter socks and what chamber of the sump you've got him in. I'd probably feed a couple pellets/mysis.

I keep my not so reef safe fish and inverts in my refugium. I have filter socks first in my sump, so if any food chunks make it to my sump, it won't get to my refugium. I feed, but it's a very small amount.

My old sump didn't have filter socks and I was a terrible over feeder. I did not feed the sump because I saw food there.

I think it depends in the setup, and if you love feeding things like me. All living things need food, just as long as it is provided in some way you are golden.

Being that sumps/refugiums are usually much smaller than the display tanks, a life down below sounds kind of dismal to me. (for fish) Does tank size not count here, much like it does with tangs?

In my 60g frag tank, one of 3 damsels went over the overflow on day 1. He is now happily down in the 100g sump with all the live rock. He gets fed the same way he got down there.

So what's better filter socks or no filter socks

Yes!

Personal preference. For me, that means no filter socks

A 100 gallon sump on a 60 gallon frag tank? Wow! That sounds like a completely different set up to me. If you haven't already you might as well just put a light over it and call it a day. I'm sure your damsels are happy in that ridiculously large sump.

The frag tank is in the basement fish room, so space wasn't a problem. I have a 4'x2'x12" frag tank and use a 100g Rubbermaid stock tank underneath it as the sump. No worries about the DT overflowing the sump!!!!
