Question about hyposalinity in a quarantine tank

Okay so I've had a baby blue hippo tang, and a fire goby in a hypo qt for about a week an a half now. I keep the salinity at 08-09 and the ick has died off both fish. I understand that I have to keep them in the qt for close to 2 months now or the ick to die off in the dt. Now my question is why so long? Also, if the ick is dead in the qt can I now raise the salinity to help with the ph?

i beleive 2 weeks in hypo to complete the cycle minimum. dont worry to much about the ph, its the build up of ammonia as the or any bacteria has dyed off once you past 015, the display tank will take longer as the ick is not exposed to hypo conditions and will take longer to dye of

i am under the understanding that the entire life cycle of cryptocaryan(sp?) is about 90 days. if you're running a tank fish free, all of the ich will be guarenteed to be dead at the end of that timeframe, regardless of salinity. crypto/ich needs fish to survive. keeping fish in qt for that long helps you monitor for those "not-quite-dead" pests.

Thank you so much for te replies. Okay so I have a lawnmower blenny and two clowns in my dt, do I need to take them out as well for a 3 month process? Also, if I introduce the tang and goby back into the dt after a month will they just get ich right away again? I've read up on ich and the hypo treatment Alot but am kinda confused because if the process takes 90 days in the dt then why only keep a fish in hypo for 30 days?

Well, not exactly. The average life cycle is 3 weeks. We recommend 9 weeks for a certainty of 99.7 percent. But six weeks fallow will normally be sufficient which is 95% certainty.
