i have three different types of toadstools all three pf them extend thir pollups but the flowery looking tips dont open. they have grown and seem like they are doin good but what would cause this? it is a 55gal. nitrate is 2.5, ammonia and nitrite is 0, ph is 8.2, alk is 4, calcium is about 380. just tested today and added a little calcium cause it seemed a little low.

Depends on the species-- some don't have the "flowery" tips. Did they have them when you bought them?

i can see them on the ends just closed. i was told to try and spot feed them but that hasnt worked yet.

if "feeding" would work (which I highly doubt), then the ends would close to capture the food anyway so it would defeat the purpose. Click on my gallery icon and you can see photos of different types of toadstools fully expanded. Or better yet, look at the "Show me your Toadstools" thread in this forum to see some of the different types.

ya some just dont open all the way. I've got 3 different types of toadstools. The regular gold/tan/brown one doesnt open its polyps all the way to show the little flowery things. The green one on the otherhand opens all the way to show the flowery things...same tank, so the water is exactly the same for both. So that makes me believe that some are just different. Both are growing very fast.

Then i've got a super long polyped toad in another tank that opens up the ends of the polyps as well.
