question about ocellaris

No do not worry about the inverts. If you want to place all of your fish into the same quarantine, I would get a 20 gallon. I thought you only had the two fish. Anywho, they will all need to be quarantined for a minimum of 6 weeks with 8 being idea. Make sure that you do water changes daily on the quarantine as the copper will kill the bacteria in any filters. Make sure you do not use any carbon. I would pick up a bottle of Prime and keep a close eye on the ammonia in the tank. All you need is a 20 gallon tank, a small heater, a terra cotta flower pot or some pieces of PVC pipe for the fish to hide in, a small light (desklamp will do) and a small HOB filter (with NO media in it) to keep oxygen levels up. Do not put any substrate into the quarantine because the copper will bond with it.

I have a 10 gal tank that i am using now but was thinking of giving my fish in there (fresh water) to my neighbor. That way i can use the same filtering system and heater that already exists.
What do i need to do to the water in main tank if anything.
and by the way you have been very helpful.

You are welcome. I rememeber when I needed help and couldn't get any when I first got into this hobby. At Walmart, 10 gallon tanks are 9.88 normally, heaters run about $5 for a 50 watt and you can get a whisper filter internal or external for less than $10 also. Here is another thing that will help keep the fish stress free, go to the paint section at Walmart and get Krylon Fusion black spray paint. Spray the back, sides, and bottom of the tank and it will keep the fish much more comfortable. You want to minimize stress as much as possible. If you do decide to use your freshwater tank, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN it out. I like to fill up my empty tanks and add a bit of bleach to them, let them sit for 30 minutes, drain them, wipe them down with papertowels, then let them airdry and you are good to go with a sterile tank. I would say no to reusing the filtration for freshwater. Just grab a Whisper filter for 6 bucks or so and use that.

ok. I will do that. and thanks so much again. I have been trying to get some pics of my tank to post. I think i have one on here if you want to check it out. Its with minimal live rock and not all only two fish. I have since gotten much more rock. It is under my gallery.

Looks great. If you look around this forum for my posts, I have posted several pics of my clowns and BTA's. I have only posted pics of my B&W pair though. I am in the process of moving for the fifth time this year and am setting up new broodstock tanks so once I get that done, I will post pics of every pair.

BTW, it's no problem. If ya ever need some help, I will try my best :)

one more thing. If i put these fish in the qt tank. should i use water from my display for biologicals and such.

Mix up some new saltwater. When you put them into quarantine the very first day, fill the tank up halfway with water from the main tank and fill it up the rest of the way with new water. Some people use straight new water but I have better luck doing it my own way :) Do not worry about any biological filtration or anything. The meds will kill it. Just do a 50% water change every few days, or as soon as you have ammonia buildup (may need to be every day with four fish). Keep some Prime handy for unexpected ammonia spikes. And last but not least, do not use freshly mixed saltwater. Let it age for about 24 hours. I always go ahead and mix up fresh water right after my tank chores so it is ready to go the next day.

Yes, that will do. Sorry for not getting to this sooner, as I ran around to buy a new fish yesterday and the hubby lost his wallet somewhere along the way and we had to go on a hunt for it, LOL.

Any updates, are they doing any better?

no they are actually worse this morning. I did not have a chance to set up the hospital tank last nite. I am doing that after work today. The ich is now visible on my yellow angel, especially on his delicate fins. My poor little clown is now kind of just floating around and fighting to stay down towards the bottom. I hope I can save him. I will have them in tank by about 7:00p.m.

Aw I hope it's not too late. If they do not make it, just be sure to leave that tank empty for two months. While you are waiting for that, if you can't hold off, you can buy another clown and keep it in quarantine :)

would i put it in with the others that are being treated in quarantine. And am i correct that the ich in the main tank will die off without the fish in there.

I would put it by itself. If it is pretty small, like mine were, I used a 5 gallon tank for them.

Yes the ich will die if you leave it fishless long enough. BUT, the second you add a fish that is harboring ich (a lot of times you can not see symptoms) the tank will have it again. Always quarantine, better safe than sorry. I learned the hard way too on a pair of false percs a few years ago.

Then wait to get any more fish until yours are out of quarantine and then put the next set in. More fish just stresses them out more.
