Question about return outlet on 6000.

Roger,

What would happen if you were to cutoff the little return spout on the streams, or even further cut it off up to where the intake slots are. This will open it up alot more. Will that create an even more diffused flow pattern?.....

Also can i cover the outlet with plastic mesh?...I would like to run the tide mode without worrying about snails. Maybe you guys should look into making this adapter. Seems odd that the pumps can run in tide mode but you don't recommend it due to snails entering the chamber. This renders this option useless. I just want to make sure that by putting the plastic mesh i would not be causing any damage.

Where can i get an extra return cover in case i want to experiment with my streams?..

Thanks.

The multicontroller 7094 was developed in 2000, before the Streams existed. Further, european aquarists almost never have more than a few very large trochus snails, Astrea are unavailable and Turbo and Trochus cost almost $10 each. Without small snails it is not an issue. European aquarists are more reliant on micro life like copepods and isopods for algae control as well as filtration techniques. In the future we will have so solutions to the problem. We also will have a larger outlet for the 6200 that if you wish you could buy as a spare part and add to your 6000, I cannot recommend modifying yours, I also wouldn't recommend the bigger outlet as likely the flow will barely carry 2-3ft with just a 1/2" increase.

Roger,

I will wait to see what the bigger outlets look like and what their effect will be. For now, the pump will stay intact.

But you never answered my question about covering the outlet with plastic mesh. I will then use a tiewrap to keep it secured. I want to run in tide mode but i have snails. Can i do this?.....

Thanks.

It will drastically reduce flow. you might try a piece of eggcrate but I would expect at least a 15% reduction from this as well.

Roger,

Can tide mode be used with snails in the aquarium at all? Is there anyway to get around this problem?

Thanks

Roger,

If it reduces flow that's ok. I just want to make sure the pump doesn't get damaged by this. So i take it it's a yes.

I have 2 6000's in a 75gal right now. They are both on 30%. Putting the screen on is ok since i will just have to up the power. Now i have to locate the screen.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Brewboy74- most snails are no problem, the trouble makers are small astrea, stomatids and cerith. They crawl in when the pump is off and on start up the prop brakes. It is rare but it can happen.
