a friend of mine bought ej's 75g acrylic tank a few days ago and has a question about the return.... the old piece he used on his old tank (where the return enters the tank) doesnt fit into the top of the new acrylic tank... just wondering what everyone else uses that has acrylic? does he just cut out a piece of the top of the acrylic tank to fit the return? or use a whole new return piece ?

i havnt seen the tank yet personally but heres a few pics he sent to my phone
this is the old piece hes tryin to reuse

I would just use a hole saw to cut another hole or enlarge the existing hole with a dremel or something.

Yeah, but the problem is the hole on this tank is very small. I would imagine he would want something larger so the head pressure on the pump is reduced.

Don't use the predrilled hole on the acrylic tank. Do as Ding2 states and simply make one with PVC pieces that will clear the entire edge of the tank.

But if he really wants to use the hole then yes, make it bigger.

If he decides to make one out of PVC(which would be the best option IMO),then just make sure to drill a hole about 1/8" diameter on the return just below water surface. This will break the siphon in event of a power outage & help prevent the sump from flooding.HTH.
