Will perc. clowns fight each other? I just got 2 small percs and they seem to be all over each other.. I don't think they are fighting... they just keep swimming right around the glass near each other.

Just wondering...

If they are paired, you will see this behavior a lot from what I have seen from mine. The male (smaller one) is constantly rubbing up against the female and swimming around her. At times she almost seems to get annoyed, but they just seem to "roll" around each other so-to-speak. They sleep together too.

Ok, so clownfish are....weird.

To simplify, they're all males. They fight. The biggest and toughest morphs into a female, and the losers stay male. The female then grows to be quite large relative to the males; she'll beat up on the males from time to time so that they stay male. If the female dies, the remaining males will fight to get to see who gets to be the female.

There are exceptions, but in this scenario, there probably won't be any single males left. Once clowns pair and sexually mature, they (especially the female) will usually not tolerate any other clowns in the same tank.

I've had my pair of black and whites for around 2 months now and they aren't a pair yet but don't leave each others side.
My 6 year old pair of percs are a pair, spawn all the while but the female is much more outgoing than he is and they don't really spend that much time together. So really as above, Clowns are crazy
