why is the skin falling off my fish he is acting normal but skin is off

maybe he got stung by some coral, or burnt from the heater

Heaters in the sump maybe my anemones the rest is zoas and sps

I've seen my foxface shed his "skin" more than once, it's kinda creepy to see. The first time I saw it I thought he was a goner, but since then I've seen at least a couple other RC members mention this as not being uncommon for this species.

My fish seems to be no worse the wear for this happening, I've had him for a couple of years now and he's the biggest/fattest fish in the tank.

Hey! Do I see a brown spot on the tail?? Mine has the same thing and I'm going crazy trying to figure out what it is! And yes mine "sheds" skin too..looks kind of like smoke

mines does the exact same. when spooked he leaves what looks like smoke in the water... very odd

the sheding of the skin is a weird thing a first for me

Not wierd or at all uncommon for a foxface. The "smoke" you guys are seeing is actually the slime coat and not skin at all. When they get spooked or even at times for no real reason they will do this.
